» In the Canary Islands, and also in the Azores, Madeira and Selvagens archipelagos, the subspecies present is Larus michahellis atlantis. It is very common and spreading in the last decades. There is some controversy with the taxonomic status of the subspecies atlantis, which was originally described with material from the Azores and Canary Islands.
