Remarks

» Since we settled on the Pytilia identification, there has been further correspondence. Birds of Africa Volume 7 has a painting of Lineated Pytilia which shows barring on the flanks and an all red tail whereas Red-headed Weaver shows plain underparts, a grey tail with red edging and the fringed greater coverts / jc. Other opinions welcome.
