The book will have every single islands Endemic species of the Indian Ocean, 289 in all, also included the Subspecies, Waterbirds, Migrant Seabirds, Migrant Shorebirds, Migrants Birds of Prey, and the Exotic well over 1100 photos. This is the first book to illustrate all the birds of the Indian Ocean region. It is a large format book, running to over 1,100 pages with thousands of full colour original photographs and an academic text contributed.

The geographical coverage of the book will embrace all the island groups of oceanic origin from its boundary with Asia to the north, Africa to the west, and Australasia to the east and the Tropic of Capricorn to the South. In alphabetical order these are: -

Agalega, Andaman, Nicobar Islands (2) Chagos Archipelago, Diego Garcia. Christmas Island Coco Keeling Islands, Comoros (Maroni, Moheli, Anjouan, Mayotte., Lakshadweep, (Laccadives). Madagascar. Maldives, Mauritius, Pemba, Reunion, Rodrigues, Seychelles, Socotra, Sri Lanka, Tromelin.

The Indian ocean is the third largest Ocean in the world containing 20% of the water of the Earth’s surface. The birds of the region include many unique endemic species that have evolved in isolation before the arrival of Man together with seabirds for their enormous numbers.

The book will be high quality celebration of the beauty and diversity of birds of the island and island groups of the Indian Ocean region. It will include photographs and informative text. It will be the first book of its kind to cover the entire region.
