First record of Black-casqued Hornbill Ceratogymna atrata for The Gambia


Première observation du Calao à casque noir Ceratogymna atrata pour la Gambie. Le 26 octobre 2018, un Calao à casque noir Ceratogymna atrata mâle a été photographié à Keneba, Kiang West, Gambie. Il s’agit de la première donnée pour la Sénégambie.

On the evening of 26 October 2018, I observed a large hornbill in tall trees bordering rice fields near the Bintang Bolong River at Keneba, Kiang West, The Gambia (13°19’53”N 16°01’45”W). I immediately realised that it was not an Abyssinian Ground Hornbill Bucorvus abyssinicus nor the much smaller African Pied Hornbill Tockus fasciatus and, suspecting the bird might be interesting, took some photographs
