ABC African Checklist

Layout of the list

Recognised species are listed within their recognised families and for each the following is included. Some notes on all these follow.

The main line lists the preferred Scientific name, English name, French name.
(This line is the main entry for each species. Subsequent lines are only included if necessary.)

Under the English and French names some alternatives may be listed.

The next line is a list of recognised races (with differences in publications noted) if not monotypic.

The next line notes if any of the sources use a different scientific name for the species.

Subsequent lines note all differences in the opinions of the major taxonomic sources as to classification and taxonomy of the species or races and some other miscellaneous notes may be added.

The last line contains a brief indication of status, habitat and range.
