There are serious conservation issues particuarly from slash and burn farming and the threat to the forests from agricultural use. Although measures have been taken to protect the classified forests, application is patchy. Apart from the IBAs referred to above there is a list of 45 Forêts Classées. The Service des Eaux et Forêts does function with the limited means at its disposal, and would certainly be welcoming and helpful to any visitors requiring assistance.
